Jake, Alumni of Newport Academy

Jake, an alumni of Newport Academy, learned to acknowledge and express his deep-rooted emotions through making and listening to music in teen residential treatment. In addition, Jake has spent time post-treatment playing music with alumni of Newport Academy. Music is Jake’s outlet for coping with his teen anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.

While at Newport Academy, Jake discovered that music has a profound impact on his life. Music Therapy can positively affect mental health, boost the immune system, alleviate stress, reduce anxiety, and improve mood.

Newport Academy’s therapeutic approach to music focuses on unlocking emotions and self-expression through varied formats. Music Therapy provides an outlet for both artistic experiences and internal healing for alumni like Jake. Whether he was learning a specific instrument or attending Newport Academy’s popular Rock to Recovery class, Jake learned to acknowledge and express his deep-rooted emotions through the use of music.
